Kellogg Family Nature Preserve

This 5-acre preserve was the last remaining parcel from a 6-generation farming family beginning with Erastus Kellogg in 1837 who received it through a federal land grant. Before that time, the Ojibwe people lived here (and other tribes passed through) before having to cede the land to the federal government for a nominal amount of money. This preserve is in honor of both the native people who were here for thousands of years and the Kellogg family who farmed and contributed to the local community that was a foundation for present day Howell and Oceola Township.

This preserve is open to the public for quiet enjoyment from sunrise to sunset.

Preserve rules:

*  Walk on mowed trails only – no bikes or motorized vehicles.

*  No dogs or other pets allowed.

*  No hunting or trapping is allowed.

*  No collecting or cutting of vegetation.

Thank you for respecting this special place.
